Drawing on a 45-year career as an occupational therapist, I find myself reconnecting with the therapeutic power of touch through pottery. The deep pressure of working with clay provides a physical and mental centering that grounds my creative process. My ceramic work translates the textures, colors, and rhythms of my life on Crum Creek, capturing the intricate patterns of apiary life, the vibrant hues of my pollinator gardens, and the presence of local wildlife. In my studio in Media, PA, I use hand-building techniques that directly engage with the clay's properties. My use of diverse glazes and firing methods—from electric and gas to the spontaneous finishes of raku and soda firing—allows me to embrace a process where control yields to chemistry, creating surfaces as unique and unpredictable as the natural world that inspires me.
